financially. You are always welcome, and we hope to see you
in our office often.
On January 4th, 1964, the United Poles Federal Credit Union
was officially registered by members of the United Poles in
America (ZPA) with their leader Hieronim Wyszynski. The charter
of the Credit Union was formally signed on October 22nd, 1964.
The planning for the creation of this type of Credit Union
was an admirable undertaking requiring immense dedication
and work. It is to this day that the fruits of this labor
we reap with sincere appreciation. The beginnings were not
easy. The Credit Union at that time was the only existing
institution of its kind among Polish ethnic group; it was
also a unique and model institution which was to provide assistance
to Polish immigrants and their families already established
in the Perth Amboy area. Those who contributed their time
and energy to this worthy task wanted to create a strong and
efficient union for its mostly Polish speaking members.
In 1965, just one year after the Credit Union commenced
its activities, the deposits in savings amounted to $3,221.00.
In 1975, they exceeded $500,000. After fourteen years of
persistent and devoted work the first million was attained
in 1978. In the 1980s the management of the Credit Union
made some very important financial decisions. Various types
of savings accounts were developed, new credit programs
were instituted and many investment activities were started.
This new approach, together with the trust and cooperation
of its members proved extremely successful. Establishing
an excellent reputation, the Credit Union which in 1980
had deposits of $1,400,000 grew stronger to the point when
today it has assets of almost $40 million dollars.
The United Poles Federal Credit Union has been established
as a Credit Union servicing our sponsor organization, United
Poles in America and as an independent financial institution.
All deposits are federally insured by the NCUA. The Credit
Union movement is unique and despite financial difficulties
of banks and the fall of savings and loan systems, credit
unions continue to prosper.
The Board of Directors of the United Poles Federal Credit
Union wish to express their sincere gratitude to all members
for their support over the past forty years and share their
appreciation to all those who, through their work contributed
to the success of this organization.
